Kissed by the Bay #3

Susan Hatler

Charlie Rockwell’s divorce from her rock star ex left her with a broken heart, a mansion on the bluffs in her hometown of Blue Moon Bay, and an empty back account. Now, Charlie has to generate enough income to keep the house she loves.

When producers of the soap opera, Just One Love, offer to rent Charlie’s house for a sizable fee, Charlie’s tempted. Only she wants nothing to do with the spotlight or dating someone famous again, and the show’s sexy star, Luke Montgomery, has her in his sights. Reluctantly, Charlie agrees to rent her home and vows to stay out of Luke’s way.

Unexpectedly, as filming progresses, Charlie witnesses Luke’s sweet side. She also remembers her college theater days and love of acting. During an on-set emergency, she’s asked to stand-in during a scene, and her undeniable chemistry with Luke impresses the producers enough that they want Charlie full-time.

Can Charlie finally have the career she’s dreamed about? And will Luke break her heart, or will he be everything he seems and what she always wanted?

Just One Kiss is the third installment in the Kissed by the Bay series. I have to admit, I have not read any of the other in the series. One does not need to read the other books in order to enjoy Just One Kiss though. Having read other works by Susan Hatler, I was excited to read more of her romance stories. This novel was an easy, sweet and clean read.

The heroine in this story, Charlie, has just gone through a nasty divorce. She is left penniless, heart broken and afraid of risk. Charlie doesn’t like being in the spotlight known as Rex’s ex-wife. The media tells nothing but lies about her, the paparazzi following her around everywhere she goes, trying to get the next big story. All she ever wanted in life was to become an actress, but put her dreams on hold so her (ex)husband could pursue his. Charlie putting her dreams on hold felt really relatable because let’s face it, who hasn’t put their dreams on hold at one point in their life.

Luke Montgomery is the perfect guy. He’s the star in the soap opera, Just One Love, he’s attractive, caring and to quote the book “adorkable”. Luke seems to have little flaws and part of me wanted him to be a little bit more imperfect. Luke quickly falls for Charlie and is determined to get romantically involved with her, much to her dismay.

I really enjoyed this romance tale of Charlie and Luke. Although it left me wanting a bit more drama, especially since they were working on a soap opera TV show, it was a great read nonetheless. Susan Halter is amazingly talented at writing clean romance novels that leave you feeling warm hearted and just leave you going “awww”.
